Tattoo

I was invited back by Orakei School to devise another art workshop and collaborative artwork with a year eight class of children aged from ten to thirteen. Our aim was to create an artwork which could be auctioned at the school’s annual art fundraising event.

We explored the ideas of symbols and their meanings across global cultures. Our artwork was created following a process that involved each student drawing from research and creating symbols and stencils for themselves from their drawings.

From the student’s artwork, I created a montage with their symbols applied to a mirror panel via a hand-cut stencil with enamel paint. I always find that working with kids is a very rewarding process.
